It’s that time of year! Teachers love to give the dreaded assignment of doing a report on a historical fiction book. Maybe you’re sitting there trying to figure out a way to spend the least amount of time on this project while on your holiday break…or maybe this assignment is going to be waiting for you after the New Year, but nonetheless – are you dreading it??!
It wouldn’t surprise me. Most teens probably wouldn’t consider reading historical fiction unless they have to for school. But since it HAS tobe done, why not spend your time reading something you might actually enjy? I came across this great Teen Booklist that has “stories from the past that won’t make you snore!” The person who created the list promises action, mystery and even a little bit of gore! Now that’s not your everyday History text book!
And now for the list….and you might be pleasantly surprised to see that many of these books are written by some of our favorite teen authors!
Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel
Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson
Picture the Dead by Adele Griffin and Lisa Brown
The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzlez
Folly by Martha Jocelyn
Mercury by Hope Larson
The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly
…and many, many more!
