The Great Page Race finished on Oct. 24 and we finished with a bang! Students from Jane Addams, Hubert H. Humphrey and Brooks Middle Schools were reading to win books for their school library media center. The Friends of the Fountaindale Public Library sponsored the race and awarded $600 in books to the three participating schools.
1,823 teens registered – 1496 of those teens read and recorded at least one page for the race this year. All three schools read a grand total of…(drum roll please)…1,714,510 pages!!! Fantastic job!
It was a hard fought race but Jane Addams Middle School was declared the winner. The students at Jane Addams read 883,926 pages. Their school won a $300 collection of books and their school’s name on a traveling plaque. Coming in second was Hubert H. Humphrey Middle School reading a total of 597,042 pages. Humphrey won a $200 collection of books. Finally, Brooks Middle School students read 233,542 pages and won the $100 collection of books.
The library also awarded the winning classroom at each school with a set of 2012 Rebecca Caudill nominees and a $100 gift card towards a pizza party. Our classroom winners were Ms. Potete at Jane Addams, Ms. Sewasciuk at Humphrey, and Ms. Lesac at Brooks.
Congratulations to all schools, students and teachers!
Happy Reading!
