Celebrate Teen Read Week at the library! Teens in grades 6 – 12 can “Read Away Fines” in the Vortex from Sunday, 10/12/14 – Saturday, 10/18/14. For each minute spent reading, the library will remove $0.05 in overdue charges from a teen’s account with no limit of how much can be waived during this week.
Teens interested in participating are encouraged to visit the Vortex during open hours to read—assigned school reading, books for fun, magazines, audiobooks, or graphic novels all count. Any reading level and any reading material counts, and teens should feel free to bring their own reading material or to browse our collections.
Here are the Vortex Hours for the week:
Sunday, 10/12 12 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Monday, 10/13 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. (Columbus Day – Schools Closed)
Tuesday, 10/14 2 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, 10/15 2 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Thursday, 10/16 2 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Friday, 10/17 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, 10/18 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Please note, teens will need their library cards in hand to participate (and a school ID when possible). Vortex cards are not required in order to participate, but a minimum of fifteen minutes of reading time at a stretch is. Teens can read one or more days.
Any interested teens should check in at the Vortex service desk to begin logging their reading time. Please note, Read Away Your Fines does not apply to the charges for long overdue items, although Circulation staff will be happy to waive the cost of any long overdue items returned in good condition. E-readers and Studio 300 equipment does not apply.
