There’s this awesome (AND FREE!!) website I recently discovered that perhaps some of you might have heard of. It’s called Codecademy. All you need to sign up is an email address and you’re good to go!
What I like about Codecademy is their sense of humor. Since Python was actually named after Monty Python (if you don’t believe me, look it up yourself!), the course for Python has lots of silly Monty Python references in it. It makes learning to code a lot more enjoyable when you’re able to laugh while doing it.
You can also be silly with the instructions in whatever you’re coding. Here’s mine for example:
I was working on the HTML & CSS course in the above image and felt like using pet noises for my practice! You’re allowed to type in whatever you like as long as it’s within the bounds of the instructions.
I like that it teaches you one step at a time without being overwhelming. If you take a break, just sign off for a while and go back to it when you’re ready. There’s no reason to do it all at once (unless you decide you want to do that, that is! At the very least take food, sleep and definitely bathroom breaks)!
Worried about making a mistake as you’re coding? Don’t be! If you make a mistake, it’ll give you a hint on how to fix it. Codecademy is there to help you learn, and mistakes are part of that process!
Try making an account today, you’ll be amazed at how fast you’ll pick it up.
The library also has lots of books on programming for those interested in book resources. Check one out!
