Call Number: JF/ YA F COLLINS
Most of you have probably already read something by Suzanne Collins (possibly without even knowing it): The Hunger Games. Though that’s not the series I’ve chosen to spotlight today! I recently read the first few books of the Underland Chronicles by Collins. The first of which is Gregor the Overlander.
While its core demographic is 4-5th graders, I feel it’s a series that would be great for any age older than that ranging from middle school, high school, and beyond college! It’s a really fun and fast paced series about Gregor’s ongoing adventures in the Underland.
I really enjoy it because all the characters are interesting (Temp is my favorite, never thought I’d consider a cockroach my favorite character in anything!) and there’s no unnecessary love triangle bogging down the rest of the story. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind romance, but it’s frustrating to have it in nearly every fantasy series. Like with my last recommendation, Fall of a Kingdom, it’s super refreshing to find something that decides to abstain.
