Video Game Recommendation: World of Final Fantasy

world of final fantasy

Platform: Playstation 4

Rating: E10+

Genre: Japanese Role-Playing Game

First Released: October 25, 2016

Part of a Series? Nope! Play away! It helps if you’ve played other Final Fantasy games, but it’s not necessary at all!

Brief Synopsis:

With charming, stylized visuals for both the young and the young at heart, players will collect, raise and battle iconic monsters by stacking them to form adorable yet strategic monster towers. Two siblings journey to a mysterious land to rediscover their lost memories. In this peculiar place where stacking things on one’s head is perfectly normal, the young monster tamers will encounter new friends and familiar Final Fantasy heroes as they learn the truth about their pasts.

This game is SUPER FUN! Like I mean really ultra super duper ridiculously fun (and addictive)! It’s kind of a weird mix of Pokemon and Final Fantasy rolled into one. There’s no actual pokemon or anything in it, but it has similar elements, definitely. They both have the thing where you need to gather up little creatures for your party and use them to help you win battles, level them up, love them, squeeze them and call them George.

And did I mention puns? SO MANY PUNS. IT’S AMAZING. (Or your worst nightmare, you do you.) The dialogue is witty, silly and keeps the game moving. The plot moves at a pretty speedy pace, but not so much that it’s overwhelming. There are plenty of side quests to keep you busy as well if you don’t want the story to go by so fast.

The art style is also ridiculously cute. It’s a fun, lighthearted game for those who just want something to play in between srs biz games like Nier Automata (that game will break your heart and brain).

It has an adventure log too that’s easily accessed so if you take a long break from it, you won’t be lost. That has happened to me waaaaaaay too many times. I’M LOOKING AT YOU, DARK CLOUD 2. WHY DO I ALWAYS TAKE A BREAK AT THE SAME SPOT? I GOTTA STOP DOING THAT. Anyways.

gandalf no memory
World of Final Fantasy is a great game for lovers of the series or newcomers. It’s a friendly, upbeat romp. Check it out today!

Video Game Recommendation: Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age

final fantasy zodiac agePlatform: Playstation 4

Rating: T

Genre: Japanese Role-Playing Game

First Released:

July 11, 2017
Previous release: March 16, 2006

Part of a Series? Nope! Dive in and play away!

Brief Synopsis:

“The game takes place in the fictional land of Ivalice, where the empires of Archadia and Rozarria are waging an endless war. Dalmasca, a small kingdom, is caught between the warring nations. Vaan, a Dalmascan youth, gets caught up in more than he expected when he runs across what he always dreamed of becoming: some sky pirates.”

By now I’m sure you’re realizing most of the games I play are either Zelda or Final Fantasy (this includes Kingdom Hearts) related. If so, well, you’re not wrong…

ABOUT FREAKING TIME, SQUARE, THAT YOU RELEASED THIS. While Final Fantasy XII initially came out to the U.S in 2006, we didn’t get the whole edition. Now, in the remaster, Square made a few changes as well as bringing the additions that Japan had that we never received!

    • Expanded License board. Instead of one license board (the system you use to teach your characters abilities and raise stats), there are TWELVE! Woo! There’s twelve jobs to choose from and each character can have two different jobs! SO MANY COMBINATIONS. It’s kinda almost overwhelming? But super exciting! And there’s plenty of sites to get advice from.
    • Speed Mode! Press L1 on the controller to toggle between normal and speed mode. Speed mode allows your party leader to walk faster, making leveling a breeze!
    • Chest location changes. This may sound like a weird change to be excited over, but what you have to know about the original U.S. release of FFXII, is that there were 4 chests on the map (that without a guide you’d never know about) that if you opened, would eliminate your chance of getting one of the best weapons in the game: The Zodiac Spear. This is no longer a thing!!! Open chests in Zodiac Age anxiety free!
    • Soundtrack changes. You can now in the Config menu change between the orchestrated version of the soundtrack and the original version.
    • Language options. Play the game in English or Japanese! Can be changed at any time on the Config menu.

These changes, especially the first three I mentioned, make the game so much more enjoyable! I love being able to make each character something different with the new license boards, rather them all having the same abilities by the end game (at that point, you decide on which character you prefer to see on the screen!). I can’t wait to beat it!

Go on and check it out and play through the game with me! As of writing this we have the game on order, so hopefully soon it’ll be in stock! Check back periodically!

Cosplay How-To: Moogle Wings

Kupo! Today I’m going to walk you through how to make moogle wings! Moogles are creatures from the Final Fantasy franchise and come in a variety of styles and sizes depending on the Final Fantasy (or Kingdom Hearts) game they’re in.

Mine is based on a mixture between Mog from Final Fantasy XIII-2 and the Kingdom Hearts moogles, kupo!

First things first.

  • 4 pieces of purple felt sheets (I got mine at Michaels and they’re just approximately larger than a sheet of computer paper, probably 9”x12” roughly)
  • Fabric Scissors
  • A sewing needle
  • 3 yds of wire (I used 18 gauge, I actually recommend a thicker gauge than I used because it was a little TOO easy to work with so that means it was easily bendable if something presses against it)
  • Purple thread to match your purple felt
  • A sheet of paper to draw your pattern on
  • Pins
  • Black Sharpie
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle Nosed Pliers

You need to make a pattern! I based mine off a pair of wings I saw on Etsy

il_570xN.727244452_ppwlAs you can see, the wire shows through really well because they chose a thinner fabric (looks like some form of suede to me) and thicker wire than I used.

Again, basing it off the design from Etsy, I drew out my wings on a sheet of paper, sketching and erasing until I came up with proportions that I was happy with.

Arrange your wire around the pattern on the paper and mold and shape it to match. The first wing will be your hardest because you’re getting a feel for your wire. Use your hands or your pliers (or a mixture of both) depending on how thick your wire is. To help mold it to your pattern, feel free to tape down the wire as you go. It’ll definitely help one end keep its shape while you work on the other end!

Then cut two pieces from your spool of wire and lay them across where the two “bones” will be. Cut longer than you think you’ll need because you’ll be wrapping the ends to the base to secure it.

IMG_20170506_131653940To connect your wire pieces to each other, gently (and carefully because the ends can be sharp depending on how you cut it!) wrap the wire around until it’s secure.

Now you have your first moogle wing frame, kupo!

Now, detach your frame carefully from your pattern if you had taped it down. Then take two of your felt sheets and put the “right sides” together. The right side is the part that DID not have the barcode sticker on it (make sure you take that sticker off though before proceeding!).

Then place your frame over the felt until your frame fits snugly inside the dimensions of the felt with at least half an inch to spare on each end, like in the image below.

It looks like there isn’t room to spare in the image, but that’s just an optical illusion from the camera angle.

Take your sharpie and trace around your wings carefully BUT BUT BUT let me finish my sentence here before you use that marker! Trace around it widely so what your tracing is actually half an inch bigger (or a little bit more is ok) than your actual wire frame. You need your felt to be bigger than your frame so it can fit inside!

Grab your pins and pin the two pieces together carefully.

Cut. Cut. Cut. Carefully!

Do NOT take your pins out. Leave them in for this next step, because now we’re going to be sewing! Thread your needle and then fold the amount of thread you cut in half, and tie the two ends together.

I want you to start sewing a basic straight stitch (it kinda looks like a long dashed line, like so: — — — — ) from the right end, all the way around the top to the left pointy end, then STOP and tie off your end. You will be leaving the bottom open.

This is what it will look like after you sew it then turn it right-side out.

Insert your wing frame into your newly sewn felt wing.

Now this is the tricky part, sewing your wing frame inside the felt. You will have to fold the ends up carefully so you don’t see any rough edges from cutting out your pattern. We want nice and neat edges! What I did was wrap the bottom edge around the wire, to give myself a guide for the top end to meet it. Pin it as you fold.

Your edges should look something like this. See how they’re folded under? Once that’s sewn, it’ll look nice and neat!

Pick whichever end you prefer, and start hand sewing carefully from one end to the other, then tie it off. Remove the pins as you go.

One wing is now complete!

Repeat steps 2-10 for the second wing.

If you would like more bone definition (if you chose a thin wire like I did and cannot see the wire through the felt), feel free to sew straight stitches along the top edge and along the middle “bones” for some decoration.

Otherwise, your wings are done!

Attaching, how did I attach mine? I actually sewed mine into the back of a white dress I obtained from Goodwill and also used some fishing line from the top points to the dress to make sure they stay up.

If you’re not sure of doing that, feel free to try a bunch of safety pins to see if that works until you’re ready to commit!

Or, like in the Etsy wings, you can create a harness with your remaining wire and some elastic to wear them. (I hate wearing harnesses which is why I opted for the sewing option).

Any questions? Feel free to comment on this post or email me at

Enjoy your wings, kupo!

Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius

Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius is a mobile game available for iOS and Android! And yes, it’s free to play!

Note: There are things that cost money for extras, but don’t worry about that and waste your hard earned real-world money. It’s not necessary to enjoy the game!

In Brave Exvius, the crystals of the world are under attack, and it’s up to your character to save them! At the beginning, you can choose to name your character or leave it the default: Rain.

Like most other Final Fantasy games, Exvius is turn based! And don’t worry, there’s a tutorial for those who aren’t familiar with turn based battle systems! Basically you just whack the enemy with your party members, and then it’s the enemy’s turn and so on and so forth.

It’s very straightforward and super addictive! Just make sure to keep your device charged!

Final Fantasy XV is Finally Here!

Platform: Playstation 4, XBOX One

Rating: T

Genre: Japanese Role-Playing Game

First Released: November 29, 2016

Part of a Series? Yes and No. You don’t need to play any previous Final Fantasies to understand anything in FFXV, but all the others are super fun, and you will be able to catch some throwbacks to previous games (creatures such as moogles and chocobos).

There is also an anime (which can be found on crunchyroll for free), Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, and a movie: Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive. The anime gives some insight into the backstories of the four main characters: Noctis, Prompto, Gladiolus, and Ignis. The movie (which we own!) is a prequel to the game and gives you further backstory on what’s happening.

None of these things are necessary, they only further enhance your enjoyment of the game!

Brief Synopsis:

“Out on the road with his closest friends, Prince Noctis hears unsettling news: his homeland has fallen to the empire, with his father, his fiancee, and he himself reported dead. Unsure of what to believe, he knows only one thing-he must make his way home and take back what is rightfully his.”

As of writing this, I’m about an hour or so into the game and oh man is it fun! Unlike most Final Fantasy games, it is not turn-based! It’s a real time battle system where you can attack enemies at will without having to wait for turns and such (think Kingdom Hearts).  One of my favorite things to do is a “warp strike” where you throw your weapon, and Noctis immediately warps to where your dagger landed. It’s great to use for dodging to higher ground, or dealing serious damage to foes.

The world is also GINORMOUS, without the in-game map, it would be super easy to lose your way while exploring. Luckily, there is always an arrow on the HUD (heads up display) reminding where you need to go next when you’re ready to move on for some story.

Holy Video Games, Batman!

There are so many awesome games coming out in the next few years for the Playstation 4 that I can’t even handle it. I feel like I could die from sheer excitement.

Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III and now, Square Enix has added yet ANOTHER GAME into this freakishly awesome lineup.

colbert gif

Thank you, Colbert, for expressing into words what I could not.

What game could I possibly be talking about? For those of you who aren’t the Kingdom Hearts obsessed…

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS. It was literally the first thing I saw in my newsfeed on my phone on Tuesday.

star trek gif

A re-enactment brought to you by Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I’m oddly more excited about 2.8 than KHIII. I suppose because it feels more tangible and real? I’m so used to waiting for KHIII that a few more years is no big deal. I can wait, it’ll happen (Eventually). I’ve been waiting for KHIII since KHII came out in 2005. Yes. It’s seriously been that long.  KINGDOM HEARTS II CAME OUT TEN YEARS AGO. Yes. I’m old. You’re old. We’re all old geezers and will die a terrible and fiery death from the sun expanding into a red giant and devouring us all before Kingdom Hearts III ever comes out. Get over it.

Again, for those who are not Kingdom Hearts obsessed but are intrigued (or maybe not intrigued, you clicked on this page because it had Batman and video games in the title. You feel a little mislead and deceived and are not really sure why you’re still here. Thank you for sticking around. It’s appreciated. Keep being your awesome self.), what is Kingdom Hearts II.8 and why should you care?

It’s full title is actually Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue

KHII.8 will include:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Drop Dream Distance.

“Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the KINGDOM HEARTS series has evolved, allowing players to experience faster-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.” (KHinsider)

  • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep A Fragmentary Passage

“A completely new playable episode that links to the story of KINGDOM HEARTS III, taking place after the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.” (KHinsider)

  • KINGDOM HEARTS χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

“A new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series’ history, showcased in the upcoming mobile title KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ[chi].” (KHinsider)

To keep updated on information on all things Kingdom Hearts visit KHinsider! This article in particular has more great information about KHII.8.

Sounds pretty awesome amirite? The only downside is it won’t be available till sometime next year (2016)!

While you’re waiting for KHII.8 to come out, the library has plenty of Kingdom Hearts material to keep you busy! You could be insane like me and attempt to platinum KH1.5 and 2.5! It definitely kills time.

Will KHII.8 it answer more questions? Hopefully. Will it add more questions to the series that is a rollercoaster ride of complexity? Oh you bet.

Am I ready?
rikuI was born ready.
