My Newest Gaming Addiction: Magikarp Jump

Hello everyone,

My name is Ashe and I’m addicted to Magikarp Jump! (Yes, yes I know it came out in May and I’m late to the party). I was up until 3:30 a.m. playing…I have no regrets (ask me again in a few hours).

It’s the newest mobile game out by the Pokemon Company available on Android and iOS. It also seems to not be too battery intensive which is great for addicted players like me!

The point of the game is to train your Magikarp to have the highest jumping power it possibly can. Why? To win in Magikarp jumping leagues!

It sounds super silly, but it’s super fun and lighthearted to take away stress from the day. Play it while waiting in line at the store or in between homework assignments when you need a breather.

These Magikarp are so eager and adorable I can’t resist them!

Pokemon Go!

Have you downloaded Pokemon Go on your phone yet? It’s available on iOS and Android!

It’s an app that you can download onto your phone and works off of your phone’s GPS to tell where you’re at! As you’re walking around your neighborhood and parks you will encounter Pokemon “in the real world” that you can catch! Once you are level 5, you can choose an alliance and challenge gyms for prestige and experience!

Everyone though, please stay safe! Don’t go into construction zones and other unsafe areas looking for Pokemon, please!!

The Fountaindale Public Library is a Pokemon Gym! As of writing this post, it seems as if we are a Team Valor gym! (You can tell by the color of the Pokemon logo; Red is Valor, Blue is Mystic, and Yellow is Instinct) Help defend us, or challenge us!

However, are you like me and only recently downloaded the game? Do you not really understand how to find, catch, and level your Pokemon? I’m only level 4 so no gym challenging for me until one more level! (I swear this game is the first thing in a long while that’s gotten me to willingly take walks)

Pokemon Picross: Mindbendingly Fun Puzzles

Nintendo has done it again! First it was Pokemon Shuffle, and now it’s Pokemon Picross. I’m addicted, yet again!

pokemon picross

Pokemon Picross is free to play, but for those who are impatient you can buy more of the in-game currency, Picrites, with real money (which I don’t recommend doing. Especially not without parental permission!).

Even though the Picrites are rather limited to get, there are daily challenges that you can play to supplement the amount you get from completing missions on each puzzle! For more tips and information on playing Pokemon Picross without spending money, try this Gamefaqs thread.

I’ve never played Picross before, should I be worried?

Nope! The game teaches you the first time you load it (for those who are already familiar with picross, you are able to skip this, yay!).

pokemon picross 2

Still having trouble even after the in-game tutorial? Try this! It may make a bit more sense to you instead. It’s a tutorial that applies to how to play normal picross, but it still totally works. The only thing that is different is the skills you get from Pokemon that you bring into puzzles with you.

How is it different from normal Picross?

For one, it has Pokemon! Which just makes everything better.

pokemon picross 3

When starting out, Eevee was my favorite Pokemon to use! Rising Reveal is ❤

The Pokemon are the reason what makes the game different. You take them into the puzzle with you and each one has a different ability to make the puzzle easier. Click here for a list of them and explanations.

Each time you complete a puzzle, you “catch” a new Pokemon to help you in your quest.

Any tips?

The biggest advice I can give you is when you’re feeling flustered, just put it away for a while and come back to it. The spot you were stuck will suddenly seem oh so clear to you!

I also like to do puzzles twice: once to get a feel for it, and a second time to actually complete the missions all at once. Sometimes I’m able to do it all in one go, but when you assume you’re going to do it twice, it takes a lot of pressure off the first time you’re encountering a new puzzle!

And don’t forget about those daily challenges to build up your Picrites stash!

Now go forth and catch some Pokemon!

Pokémon Shuffle Will Take Over Your Life (and you will let it)

Seriously though. This game is great, it’s free, and you should play it.

It’s a match-three game (so think Bejeweled or the accursed Candy Crush) and the more matches you make, the more damage you do. However, you are allowed only a certain number of moves per pokémon. The amount of moves you get depend on which Pokémon it is. Some have more, and some only have 3! So make your matches count! Especially since how many moves you have left remaining increases your chances of catching the Pokémon you were just facing. The better your moves, the easier to catch it will be! (and for some Pokémon, trust me, you will need it.)

The only (small) downside of the game is that you can only play against 5 Pokémon in a row at one time (it doesn’t matter if it’s the same Pokémon, it still subtracts from your heart meter). You can pay money to get more, but that is not worth it. DON’T GIVE IN. PATIENCE, MY FRIENDS. In a half hour, you will get another heart. It will be okay. Yes, you can wait that long. I promise.

Why, you may ask? Because there are so many Pokémon books and movies you can get from the library to kill that time!

Just click on the link, and it will take you to a list of everything Pokémon we have at Fountaindale.

We also have loads of other 3DS and DS games for you to play in the meantime as well!

For any more information on the game visit Nintendo’s official website!

Or if you need any tips and tricks because you can’t get past Mega-Gengar? Gamefaqs has plenty of threads to help you with your troubles. Bulbapedia is also awesome for more information on the game as well.

Go forth my friends, and keep on shuffling!
